BERKELEY — Bay Area native Landon Seaman was the lone bright spot for Cal State Fullerton in a 93-65 loss to Cal on Monday night at Haas Pavilion.
Seaman, a 6-foot-8 graduate student who grew up in Vacaville, had 20 points on 9-of-14 shooting and added four rebounds and two blocked shots to pace the Titans, who trailed by 15 at halftime and by as much as 34 before it was over.
Josh Ward finished with 12 points and eight rebounds for Fullerton (1-2).
Dai Dai Ames scored 24 points and shot 6 for 7 from 3-point range to lead Cal (3-0). John Camden added 16 points, Chris Bell had 15 points and seven rebounds and Justin Pippen contributed 14 points, nine rebounds and six assists.
Ames hit three 3-pointers on his way to 13 first-half points, leading Cal to a 42-27 halftime lead. Seaman had 10 points on 5-of-8 shooting in the first half, but the rest of the Titans shot 7 for 26 before the break.
The Golden Bears extended their lead to 20 points on a pair of free throws by Pippen with 10:44 left. Milos Ilic followed with a three-point play and Cal cruised to the finish line.
The Titans actually outscored Cal in points in the paint (38-28) and points off the bench (33-17), but the Golden Bears capitalized on Fullerton’s 14 turnovers, which translated to 21 Cal points.
Cal shot 41.2% from the field to Fullerton’s 39.1%, but the Golden Bears were better from 3-point range (11 for 30, compared to 6 for 29 for CSF) and had a 21-point advantage at the free-throw line, where they went 26 for 30 compared to 5 for 11 for the Titans.
